From Intern to Innovator: My 6-Year Journey Shaping Visual, Motion, and UX Design Across Microsoft's Ecosystem
My Journey in Design
I began my career at Microsoft in the summer of 2013 as an intern on the Skype/Lync team. The following year, I joined full-time as a designer on the Office Shared Design team. Over the next six years, I worked on a horizontal design team responsible for visual, motion, and UX design across multiple platforms, including Win32, UWP, Windows Phone, Android (phone/tablet), iOS, and web. Our team played a key role in four major visual language and design system updates and controls across the Microsoft ecosystem.
Motion design for action bars and on-object UX as part of a company-wide initiative.
My time at Microsoft evolved through three key chapters:
-Motion Design Focus – Contributed as part of a large shared design team, refining motion principles across platforms.
-Shared Visual & Motion Team – As the team expanded, I transitioned into UX design, focusing on cohesive user experiences.
-Mixed Reality –Led initial explorations into mixed reality for Office.
- Office.com in my final chapter at Microsoft, I worked on Office.com, the central hub for millions, enhancing UX, navigation, and accessibility for the web.
This journey shaped my expertise in design systems, motion language, and multi-platform UX, setting the foundation for my work today.
